We left Koroni and headed over to Limeni Bay for the night. On the way we saw a couple of turtles so did some donuts to have a look at them. They seemed very relaxed and just mooching along … they seemed to be mostly just enjoying the warm surface waters and the sun and didn’t seem overly bothered by a strange yacht doing circles around them.

While Limeni was cute and everything, the real reason to anchor there for the night was because it’s the closest good overnight anchorage to the Diros Caves. We picked up the anchor and scooted the couple of miles around to Diros and while it was calm we popped ashore to check out the caves.
It’s a flooded cave system (there are dry sections but the walking tours were closed due to construction) and it comprises about 1200 metres of navigable cave. The tour took us on a bewildering route through the caverns in small boats being punted by our expert boatman. He obviously wasn’t the talkative type because he never said a word during the 20 minute or so trip.
It’s a pretty impressive, and extensive, cave system but because it is flooded there are only stalactites, because the drips fall into the crystal clear water and prevent any stalagmites from forming. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Check out the video for some great footage of the caves.

With the caves explored, it was time to make the most of the good weather and sneak around Cape Tainaron, the second finger of the Peloponnesus. According to Greek legend, this marks the end of the world and the entrance to the underworld … the realm of Hades. Watch the video for more on that story!

We found a bay for the night, but there was no internet coverage - which is why this post is delayed! 😁
Next stop: somewhere on the third finger of the Peloponnesus.
