Observations by Steve …

While wandering around towns and villages we have caught very brief glimpses of lizards sunning themselves on rocks. These lizards seem to have been drinking a lot of coffee because they are very jumpy, very fast and very hard to get close enough to photograph …. Maybe because it’s so warm here. While walking through a wee valley full of wildflowers to view part of Vikos Gorge we found this guy sunning himself on a rock and he seemed happy to let us get close to him ….. but not too close.  

This guys body was about 4 inches long, and his tail another 6-8 inches.

We’ve also managed to photograph these ground-dwelling lizards, the odd large grasshopper, beetles and colorful spiders. We keep hearing about all the snakes around Greece but we haven’t spotted hide nor scale of any yet (much to Ade’s relief!).

You might think butterflies are adorable and pretty, but they are a bit like Instagram influencers - they look pretty, but these ones are feeding on faeces.

These big beetles are everywhere.
